In New York, there are 1702 bridges and over 7,292 miles of highway in poor condition. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will rebuild our roads and includes the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system. Based on formula funding alone, New York is expected to receive approximately $13.6 billion over five years in federal funding for highways and bridges.
To date, $5.3 billion has been announced in New York for roads, bridges, roadway safety, and major projects. This includes $4.5 billion in highway formula funding and $817.9 million in dedicated formula funding for bridges in 2022 and 2023, $59.2 million through the RAISE program, $110 million through the INFRA program, and $959.3,000 through the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program in 2022 and 2023.
Many more projects will be added in the coming months, as funding opportunities become grant awards and as formula funds become specific projects. By reaching communities all across New York – including rural communities and historically underserved populations – the law makes critical investments that will improve lives for New Yorkers and position the state for success.
